Safety & Compliance
WHMIS
Half-day certification with a wallet card on completion — the workplace safety credential most BC employers ask for.
About This Course
If you work anywhere near a workplace that handles chemicals, paints, solvents, cleaning agents, or basically anything in a labelled container, you’ll likely need WHMIS. Most BC employers ask for it before your first shift. Spend half a day with us and you’ll leave with a wallet card you can show any HR department.
What WHMIS is, in plain English
WHMIS — the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System — is Canada’s standardized way of telling workers what’s dangerous in their workplace and how to handle it safely. It’s built on three key pieces:
- ✓Labels on every container
- ✓Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on file for every product
- ✓Training for every worker who might be exposed
This course walks you through all three so you know how to recognize hazards and protect yourself on the job.
What we cover
- ✓The WHMIS hazard pictograms — what each symbol actually means on the shop floor
- ✓How to read a Safety Data Sheet and find the information you need fast
- ✓Safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous products in your specific workplace
- ✓Your employer’s obligations under the BC Occupational Health and Safety Act and the WHMIS Regulations — and what that means for you
Who this is for
- ✓New hires onboarding into industrial, construction, or maintenance roles
- ✓Employees who handle chemicals, paints, solvents, or cleaning agents as part of their job
- ✓Employers who need compliant WHMIS training delivered to a team (on-site delivery available)
