Class 4 Licence

A Class 4 licence is what gets you behind the wheel of an ambulance, a taxi, a limo, a small bus, or any accessible transport vehicle carrying up to 25 passengers. For paramedics, taxi drivers, church volunteers, and accessible-transport operators across Vancouver Island, it’s the licence that makes that work possible.

Why people get a Class 4

Most of our Class 4 students fall into a few groups: people training to be paramedics who need to operate an ambulance; folks driving small buses or special vehicles for a community organization, school, or church group; and drivers entering taxi or limousine work. In every case, the same rule applies: your passengers are your responsibility, and getting them there safely comes first.

What’s hard about it

The toughest part of Class 4 driving isn’t the vehicle — it’s the people. Some passengers have disabilities. Some have injuries. Some are stressed, late, frustrated, or in active medical emergencies. Passenger safety doesn’t stop being priority one because someone is pushing you. That’s why we drill thorough pre-trip inspections, defensive driving, and safe pickup/dropoff locations until they become automatic.

How we teach it

All training is one-on-one with an ICBC-licensed instructor. Payment is due at registration along with a copy of your valid learner’s permit — training gets scheduled once both are in.
